Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is a system that allows monitoring of events in the zones of interest of the guarded area from a monitoring centre. In addition to real-time monitoring of the footage, an essential part of CCTV is a recording device for archiving and subsequent playback of recorded events.
The basic building block that significantly affects the quality of the entire system is the camera. It can be black and white or colour. The camera includes a suitable lens, which can be used to set the desired width of the frame and thus the size of the scene and the amount of detail. In addition to the choice of a suitable motif, the lighting conditions of the scene are a determining parameter for the quality of the image. The choice of the camera-lens combination must be adapted to them. Therefore, modern cameras allow communication with the lens and many basic and operational settings of the camera parameters. If the light intensity in a given location is low, it is necessary to proceed to the illumination of the scene. This can be done with either a conventional white light source or an infrared reflector for night vision.
